Very, very different than ttyl. Between each chapter are two full pages, completely black and blank except for random and entirely bizarre quotes from such things as ’70s advertisements, The Andy Griffith Showand Charles Manson.

I was amused by the naming of the cat “Regular” instead of “Familiar” and Liliana’s former “supplicant” being Agnes Nutter Discworld, anyone? It seems like open-ended sequels are becoming more and more the rage these days.
I flew through it pretty fast. Oct 27, Daniel Marks rated it it was amazing. It cheapens the tragedy of the real killings, and the real hatred targeted at African Americans. There, she finds some friends and even a boyfriend.
She recently also came out with the book Thirteen Plus One in So maybe check that one out instead! Based on 3 reviews. But Mayberry is poor preparation for Crestview Academy, an elite school where the tensions of the present and the dark secrets of the past threaten to simmer into violence.
Plot threads from early on in the book, like a mysterious warning from a fellow commune dweller who has visions of the future, are completely forgotten by the end. Also in between the chapters are portions of a handwritten diary by someone with the initial S.
To quote the back of the book, “This novel is simultaneously creepy and smart. Well, this book challenges the stereotypes we’ve gotten so used to If you don’t want to know, stop reading now. These lapses in coherence, plus an unsatisfactory ending, combine to leave me feeling overall kind of blah about the novel. The book was fast-paced and it really kept my attention.

Bliss – the character, not the novel – is charming in a wide-eyed innocent kind of way. Bliss believes in civil rights and is horrified by the wrong-headedness of her peers, but she makes friends with them anyway, because Bliss desperately wants friends her own age; she’s never had any, because she used to live on a commune, where there weren’t any teenagers.
It sounded like a new direction for her, too, so why not? In order to fit her vision of a more perfect world, she tries to make friends with Sandy, and succeeds, finding her a little odd and trying at times, but an okay friend.

The chapters are divided alternately myralce excerpts from a creepy diary, quotations from ‘The Andy Griffith Show’ and folk songs as well as the trial of Charles Manson and his Family for multiple murders.
I didn’t like how the side characters represented only one thing at bluss time: But as their friendship deepens, Sandy becomes increasingly more needy. Which, I mean, it did.
