He cracks me up. When Sir Richard Wyndham encounters what appears to be a very young boy climbing down out of an upstairs window he thinks he has encountered a runaway.
In a few lines of dialogue we are presented with a picture of the character’s personality. Sir Richard Wyndham is just about to enter into an engagement with the cold woman everyone expects him to marry, and has gotten very drunk to drown his unhappiness. I see now that you are drunk.
Dressed in boy’s clothing, she’s fleeing from London corithian she’s discovered by Sir Richard Wyndham, himself on the verge of the most momentous decision of his life. Here there were more candles, in chandeliers fixed to the wall. The delightful surprise was that Richard had a sense of humor and a boyish taste in adventure.
I’m rather new to this genre, having always preferred histories. Thanks again for your continual stream of Heyer reviews. I Will certainly read more books by this author and cprinthian that hey all provide as much entertainment as this one.
I had mixed feelings about the ending.
Only it would be a marriage of convenience as the lady is rather cold and disinterested. But you have all what you can expect from Georgette Heyer.
Most definitely sign me up for this one. He is twenty-one years old, and described as a pleasant-faced young man with a good pair of shoulders and easy, open manners. Rather than marry hsyer cousin who looks like a fish and is only interested in her money, Pen Creed escapes in the disquise of a man only to be rescued a Corinthian, Sir Richard Wyndam.
I am truly grateful to you! I guess I really should give Georgette Heyer a try sometime.
Very interesting and humorous! Miss Creed worked this out. But it is Heyer’s style, much reminiscent of Jane Austen’s, yet more colorful and engaging, that makes this book truly delightful.
