In addition to their original characters, the novels feature a large number of historical figures, often in important roles. The Lymond Chronicles Series
It is adventurous, hilarious, exciting, and just damn confusing. This book, and vunnett I feeeeeel about this book. The build up and release with the sixth book broke my heart. Read the damn novel! Only at the ultimate moment is the real villain of the piece revealed: The first thing that should be said is that the books are not set exclusively in France, though France and its Renaissance form one of the major background themes of the series—a kind of literary continuo, as it were.
I haven’t quite finished, but feel the need to write some thoughts down. Lymond arrives at the semi-barbaric court of the Russian Tsar Chrknicles the Terrible, and begins the difficult task of transforming this backward country into a modern state. Yet first and foremost, they are storiesand the weight of references never becomes a burden the reader has to bear in order to unravel the layers and get to the fucking story.

Tough, ruthless, dazzlingly sarcastic, he is surrounded by a troop of mercenaries almost as hard-bitten as he. Somehow it works, though; the humor makes up for a lot, and the huge cast of characters has a lot of gems Christian Stewart, the Somervilles, and Richard, for starters. View all 16 comments.
