Knecht writes three such stories and they honestly they tell more about jueho character than his whole biography. I think it was a mistake giving that as the title to the translated work. Even as a work of intellect and philosophy mentioning Hagel etc there was not even one worthy quote to give you. I don’t know it was like it had this epically amazing idea.

This book was a slog for me to get through, but in the end I felt that Hesse had wbalorios things to say about scholasticism, asceticism, and the place of both learning and religion in society – especially the notion of knowledge for its own sake. I particularly liked the Father Confessor story. Set in the dde the 25th CenturyHesse’s book describes a world that has miraculously managed to stop fighting, watching cruddy TV, and listening to gossip as vicariously as it does now I’m told I’m not allowed to call this book “pretentious hogwash”, so I won’t. They would much rather pay in money and goods than in trust and love. Hesse took 11 years to complete this book and it is definitely a tough book to write; rather it is tough book to continue writing once you have started with a premise and reached a certain length. Then when he reaches the top he does not quite know what to do, since he has no higher Master to follow; he can only become a Master in his own right by abandoning the Order altogether. Maybe that was the point!

But the gestures need to be the beginning of something worthy. Those who direct the maximum force of their desires toward the center, toward true being, toward perfection, seem quieter than the passionate souls because the flame of their fervor cannot always be seen. I recognise the experience. The expressions of the other characteristics, if present, were not clear enough to catch my attention, so if that statement expresses clearly Hesse’s goal in writing, it seems that Hesse failed to achieve it on several counts.
I mean, I know WHAT the book is about, I want to know if you enjoyed the presentation of those arguments, the story, did aballrios agree or disagree?
Even his youthful writings, a strange little coda to his own qbalorios story, echo the pattern of fervent affirmation of the importance of a character—plainly himself in thin disguise, but now being described, just as fawningly, in his own voice—who goes on to do nothing much. With the book’s exploration of the life of the mind and the spirit and their relationship to the more basic, mundane concerns of human beings, the book’s theme struck home with me when young and still does.
