I found the core biblical argument unconvincing, but again, well-stated. That seemed to be taking it too far, and beyond what the Bible says.
I had always thought the Genesis 3 verse meant women were cursed to desire the approval of men, but I guess not. Authority is a responsibility to be borne for the benefit of others without regard for oneself. I am also uncomfortable with both its exegetical style and the broader evangelical tendency to treat the Bible as the fourth member of the Godhead. Thanks for telling us about the problem. Some of the essays were more persuasive than others as is often the caseand I do wish they’d spent a little time encouraging women of God’s sovereign ability to bless their efforts at biblical womanhood since so many of us grew up in the age of feminism and thus feel better-equipped for a career in the world than for marriage and motherhood.
The information was extremely interesting, however, I’m don’t really think that “we’ve done it this way for years,” is necessarily good justification or prohibition for doing things a certain– unless it’s something like, this was being done in the early church under the apostles and the apostles seemed ok with it, so it’s ok. A powerful and necessary account of the complementation position.

This book was originally written a decade ago, but it still stands as the rcovering work on the biblical roles of men and women. There’s some stuff in chapter 15 I’m not so sure about.
